With the release of their new season, Game of Thrones has been the trending topic in many entertainment outlets. Fans, myself included, can’t get enough of it and theorize what the next episode will be. Apparently, GoT even has fans in the hacker community given that they have hacked into HBO’s network and acquired the script related to next week’s episode along with 1.5 terabytes of other data. HBO confirmed the leak in statement released to Variety.
“HBO recently experienced a cyber incident, which resulted in the compromise of proprietary information… We immediately began investigating the incident and are working with law enforcement and outside cybersecurity firms. Data protection is a top priority at HBO, and we take seriously our responsibility to protect the data we hold.”

The data obtained that been verified so far includes the script of next week’s GoT episode and unaired episodes of shows such as Room 104, Barry, Ballers, and Insecure. Email sent by hackers regarding the HBO leak
As a GoT fan, it is hard not to feel excited when one’s favorite show gets leaked ahead. I dread every time a GoT episode ends. I see myself replaying a scene multiple times in order to extend the one-hour episode last at least thirty minute. I told myself that I wouldn’t watch this season until it was over and binge watch it with a hearty supply of empanadas. Alas, I only lasted sixteen hours after the season premiered before I caved in. That being said, the breaching and acquisition proprietary data is illegal and should never be condoned. If you truly love the shows HBO produces, keep supporting them by watching them through legal means.
